UrBioFin, high-value chemical from municipal solid waste

  • Jeroen Hugenholtz, Wageningen Food & Biobased Research

In this presentation, we describe the combined activities of a European consortium focussed on valorization of urban waste. The focus is on extending an already existing bioethanol-from-waste plant based in Valencia, Spain, by development of additional microbial and chemical processes for bioethylene production, production of medium-chain length fatty acids and production of the bioplastic PHA (poly hydroxy alkanoate).
